The saturated track in Sydney made life difficult for many at Rosehill on Saturday, including our New Zealand Bloodstock graduate In A Twinkling (Fastnet Rock).
The Jamie Richards-trained three-year-old was making his Australian debut in the Gr.2 Tulloch Stakes (2000m) and finished a creditable fifth.
“He went alright," jockey James McDonald said. "He boxed away. The track wasn’t to his liking really. He’s a big actioned horse but he’s going okay.”
Fingers crossed the run did not take too much out of him and he can push on to another Group start in Australia.
Hopefully the tracks dry out a bit in Sydney, though it is fantastic to see the New Zealand-bred horses make the most of the wet conditions. Congratulations to the connections of Verry Elleegant winning the Gr.1 Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m), a race our own Karaka graduate Unforgotten ran second in last year.
On a positive note it was great to see Blue on Black (Camelot) live up to the potential he promised earlier in the Spring.
He put in a top effort to collect his first black-type placing when finishing third in the Gr.3 Manawatu Classic (2000m).
We have nearly finished weaning on the farm and have begun our prep with the weanlings entered for the May Sale.
On that note we also congratulate Dan Myers on the Group One Manawatu Sires' Produce win of Yourdeel, a horse he bred and sold as a weanling at Karaka.
