The 2017/18 racing season may be drawing to a close but Curraghmore graduates are not slowing down, with a couple of graduates posting notable results over the weekend.
The ever-consistent Only Tiger (Rip Van Winkle) finished runner-up at Randwick in the BM 80 Handicap over 2400m on Saturday. He will now head for a well-deserved spell.
Trained by John Sargent, Only Tiger has just completed his first preparation and had 15 starts for three wins, four seconds and five thirds.
The four-year-old has shown a lot of promise in this long preparation and Sargent believes that Only Tiger will return a nice handy stayer for the future.
Bred by Chrissy Bambry and and Mangatiti Trust, Only Tiger was purchased by DGR Thoroughbred Services and Cummings & Cummings for $220,000 from Curraghmore’s 2015 New Zealand Bloodstock draft.
REPLAY: Only Tiger runs second at Randwick
Birdwing (Showcasing) made her debut in Australia on Friday and looks one to watch in the future. Settling at the rear of the field she finished on strongly for fifth. Trained by John Sadler, Birdwing is out of Uno Sayuri who is a permanent resident at Curraghmore for Dr Tan.
It was pleasing to see Dancing Hare (Fastnet Rock) collect another win at Pakenham on Sunday. Part owned by Gordon Cunningham she is likely to have one more start before heading to stud to be covered by Caravaggio this spring.
