Curraghmore weanling sale graduate Red Dawn posted the sixth win of his career in Singapore overnight.
Purchased by Mr SP and Mrs KC Engelbrecht out of Curraghmore's 2012 New Zealand Bloodstock Weanling Sale Draft for $21,000, Red Dawn has proved to be a star in both the sales ring and on the racetrack.
The handsome chestnut was re-presented at Karaka at Karaka as a two-year-old raising $170,000, a $149,000 profit, when purchased by trainer Shane Baertschinger out of Westbury Stud's 2013 NZB Ready To Run Sale draft. He made an immediate impact at Kranji winning in two and placing in three of his first five starts.
The Align five-year-old's latest win came in a Class 3 event over 1100m at his first start since a break of 140 days following his last win in 1000m speed dash in December.
"He won impressively at his last start and I then gave him a spell. He's come back in good form and trialled well," said Baertschiger.
"There was a strong tempo to the race and I know he can finish strongly.
"He's improved at every prep and can go on to become a Class 2 horse."
Jockey, Matthew Kellady who was aboard at the last three of Red Dawn's wins, concurred with Baertschiger.
"This horse has all along shown good ability. Shane has done a good job with him, he hit the line strongly and he ran good time tonight, too," said the Ipoh-born jockey.
"At his early days, he was quite tricky, but now you can ride him back, midfield or forward, he is okay. He has matured a lot and can win more races."
Bred by Mark Treloar, Red Dawn is out of the Danske mare Danness who has also produced stakes performer Rocknrolla.
Curraghmore will again offer a quality draft of weanlings at Karaka on May 8-9, with plenty of opportunities for pinhooking and racetrack success.
