In-form mare Rocknrolla will step up to stakes level in Sunday's Haunui Farm Karaka Classic at Pukekohe, where she will be saddled by a new trainer.
The Towkay mare has won three of her last five starts for trainers Donna Logan and Chris Gibbs, all at her home track of Ruakaka. The most recent of those was just last Saturday, where a late charge carried her to a narrow win over Maid Of Steel.
Since that win Rocknrolla's group of owners, which includes Logan and the mare's breeder Mark Treloar, have transferred her to the Matamata stable of Karen Fursdon.
"We sent her straight down to Karen's stable after her last win," Gibbs told www.theinformant.co.nz this morning.
"She's a mare who deserves a decent chance at picking up some black type, and Mark also wanted to get her in foal. We all had a discussion about it and we decided the best way to do both of those things was to have her based more centrally in Waikato. Depending on which stallion they decide to go to, that should be much easier."
Rocknrolla has drawn the inside gate for Sunday's $50,000 Listed feature and carries the minimum weight of 53 kilograms. Among her opponents are her former stablemates Hasselhoof and Candle In The Wind.
"Rocknrolla's in lovely order and is ready to run a good race," Gibbs said. "Hopefully she can pick up some black type." -www.theinformant.co.nz
